A 35-year-old man has been found guilty of negligent manslaughter in connection with a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old woman. The verdict was delivered at the Court in Herning on Thursday. The case gained political attention due to the man’s deportation order.

The man resided at the Kærshovedgård expulsion center on tolerated stay, as Denmark has been unable to deport him to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Because the case was brought as a jury trial, the prosecutor seeks a prison sentence of at least six years.

The fatal accident occurred on April 24 last year on Vejlevej near Nørre Snede. The 35-year-old man had hash in his blood at the time of the incident, driving at 111 kilometers per hour.

The collision occurred in the victim’s lane during a prohibited overtaking maneuver. The sentencing is expected later in the day following proceedings from the prosecutor and defense attorney.
