German investigators have reportedly identified all members of a commando unit implicated in the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines. Arrest warrants have been issued for six Ukrainian suspects, and another suspect is possibly deceased, according to a collaborative investigation by ARD, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Die Zeit.
One of the suspects, a Ukrainian man identified as “Serhii K.,” was arrested in Italy last week and is believed to be the leader of the operation. German authorities typically withhold full names to protect privacy.
The breaches in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines occurred on September 26, 2022, east and southeast of Bornholm.
Danish authorities, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, have characterized the incident as an act of sabotage.
The suspects have not responded to inquiries from the German media outlets.
