The German Foreign Office has summoned Iran’s ambassador for questioning following the arrest of a Danish man suspected of spying on Jewish targets in Berlin for an Iranian intelligence service. The arrest, which took place in Aarhus, Denmark, was executed in collaboration with the Police Intelligence Service (PET) based on a German arrest warrant issued on June 24.
German prosecutors allege that the 53-year-old man collected information about Jewish places and individuals in Berlin. The suspect is accused of spying on three properties in June, with the intention of preparing for potential terrorist attacks against Jewish targets.
The Iranian embassy in Berlin has denied the allegations, calling them “unfounded and dangerous accusations” and suggesting they are a deliberate attempt to divert public attention.
PET confirmed the arrest, stating that the man has been remanded in custody until July 23.
The German Foreign Office emphasized that it will not tolerate any threats to Jewish lives in Germany and demands a full clarification of the espionage allegations.
