Future of Female Head Coaching in Football Faces Uncertainty

Several prominent female football players in Europe are hesitant to pursue head coaching roles after their playing careers end, citing demanding lifestyles and the desire for other opportunities. While some express interest in tactical aspects and player development, the significant time commitment and responsibilities associated with head coaching deter them.

National coach Andrée Jeglertz understands their hesitation, acknowledging the sacrifices required. He emphasizes the need for better conditions for female players throughout their careers to prevent burnout and encourage them to consider coaching. Jeglertz hopes to see more former female players in coaching positions, believing they can provide valuable experience and perspective.

Pernille Harder, while open to the possibility, expresses concern about the lifestyle, noting that coaching would likely require even more time at the facility than playing. She enjoys the tactical side of football and working with young players but remains uncertain about committing to a head coaching role.

Nadia Nadim plans to focus on her medical career, while Katrine Veje intends to utilize her education in media and communication. Sanne Troelsgaard prefers a supporting role, such as an assistant coach or mentor, rather than taking on the full responsibility of a head coach. Troelsgaard acknowledges that the planning aspects of head coaching are daunting and that she is more drawn to the human element of the game.
