A police officer from Funen Police was sentenced to 30 days of unconditional imprisonment on Thursday for abuse of office.

The officer, 39, immediately appealed the sentence.

The prosecution had sought a prison sentence of up to two years, while the defense argued for a suspended sentence or a fine.

The officer pleaded guilty to 21 of the 29 charges against him.

These charges include taking pictures of a presentation from the police’s intelligence and analysis unit about the Korsløkkegruppen gang, as well as a photo of an internal police memo about an attempted murder in Odense.

He explained that he worked in the police’s operations center and took the pictures to review later.

He acknowledged that he should have used his official cell phone but claimed it was broken. “I know it’s not entirely by the book… That was my mistake,” he stated.

The case began when the officer’s ex-wife allegedly received several photos of the case files.

The officer denied providing her with the pictures, suggesting she may have overheard his phone’s code and accessed them without his consent.
