Frederikshavn has been selected as the location for a new naval shipyard to assemble military ships, marking a significant victory for the city and the entire North Jutland region. The decision, announced Friday evening, stems from a political agreement reached by the parties behind the defense agreement.

Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen emphasized the far-reaching impact of this decision on Danish society, highlighting the significance of building military ships domestically.

Frederikshavn Municipality anticipates that the naval shipyard will stimulate substantial growth in the area, both directly and through associated industries. Mayor Karsten Thomsen characterized the project as a major engine for development across North Jutland, creating jobs, boosting business, enhancing education, and providing future opportunities for residents. He lauded the selection as a historic day for Frederikshavn Municipality, recognizing it as a result of strong and targeted collaboration.
