A man in his mid-50s has been remanded in custody and ordered to undergo a mental examination after confessing to arson in Fredericia. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, led to the evacuation of several residents from a property on Norgesgade.

The man admitted in court on Sunday to violating a serious arson law that involves intentionally putting others in imminent danger. According to a prosecutor, this particular statute is rarely invoked, as most arson cases involve property damage rather than direct threats to human life.

Police initially suspected the resident of deliberately starting the fire, leading to his arrest. The judge justified the custody based on the public’s sense of justice. Prosecutor Bettina Wagner declined to comment on the man’s motives for the arson.
