A four-month-old baby is hospitalized with serious injuries after allegedly being subjected to violence by the child’s father, according to Midt- and Vestsjællands Politi.
The parents, from Midtsjælland, were arrested on Saturday morning. A judge in the Court in Roskilde ruled on Sunday to remand both parents in custody until June 19.
The father is charged with inflicting the violence. The mother is charged with complicity for allegedly failing to intervene despite knowing about the father’s actions.
Both parents have pleaded not guilty and have appealed the district court judge’s decision to the high court.
Police claim the mother violated the penal code by remaining passive and not intervening. The legal system has previously established that passivity in cases of violence against children can be punishable.
The case is currently in its early stages. Following the police investigation, the prosecution will determine whether to file an indictment, and the court will then assess the evidence.
