Stine Jørgensen, the former captain of the Danish national handball team, has announced her retirement from professional handball. The announcement was made in a post on LinkedIn.
Jørgensen reflected on her career, stating that handball has been a significant part of her life since childhood and that she feels privileged to have earned a living from her passion. She emphasized the importance of the friendships and communities the sport has provided her.
Most recently, Jørgensen played for Copenhagen Handball since 2022. However, in May, it was reported that the club chose to terminate her contract for financial reasons.
Throughout her career, the backcourt player has been a prominent figure in clubs such as Odense Handball and FC Midtjylland. She also played abroad for German team Bietigheim from 2020 to 2022.
Jørgensen represented the Danish national team from 2010 to 2020, participating in 149 national matches and serving as captain for several years.
