The fire in Skagen Klitplantage is now largely under control, eliminating the risk of further spread, according to the North Jutland Emergency Services. The operation is expected to be completed on Wednesday, though firefighters will remain to extinguish any remaining pockets of fire.
Earlier on Tuesday, concerns arose about the fire reigniting due to strong winds, prompting reinforcements from three North Jutland fire stations to be called in. The additional personnel reinforced the existing stopping belts, which are five-to-ten-meter-wide strips of land saturated with water, ultimately preventing the fire from spreading.
Currently, approximately 70 firefighters are still on-site. A status evaluation is planned for 8 p.m., after which some personnel may be released. Firefighters will remain present throughout the evening, with another assessment scheduled for Wednesday morning.
The airspace over Skagen remains closed until midnight to avoid disrupting firefighting operations, as confirmed by North Jutland Police. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the blaze. The town of Skagen is currently hosting a large number of holiday visitors, as this week is a popular vacation period.
