Fire Erupts on Ferry “Ida” Between Stubbekøbing and Bogø

A fire broke out in the engine room of the ferry “Ida” on Saturday evening, shortly before its scheduled arrival at Bogø Harbor. The ferry, which operates between Stubbekøbing on Falster and Bogø, had departed from Stubbekøbing at 5:30 PM.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident at Bogø Harbor and managed to bring the situation under control, as stated on the ferry’s Facebook page.

The extent of the damage is still unknown as of Sunday.

Concerns have been raised regarding alternative transportation arrangements, particularly for cyclists who rely on the ferry service. Vordingborg Municipality, which is responsible for the ferry service, has not yet provided information on replacement ferries or buses.

Betina Nymand, chief consultant for Vordingborg Municipality, stated that a decision on alternative transportation will be made once a clearer assessment of the damage is available and there is an indication of when sailing can resume.

“Ida” is one of Denmark’s oldest wooden ferries, built at Stege Skibsværft in 1958/1959. The ferry has the capacity to carry 98 passengers and 12 cars. It transports thousands of people, bicycles, cars, motorcycles, and buses between Bogø and Stubbekøbing every summer.
