Twelve drivers in the Copenhagen West area have been fined 2500 kroner and face driving disqualifications for failing to clear ice from their windshields this winter. The Copenhagen West Police announced the penalties on social media platform X this past Friday.
The drivers were caught on various days throughout the winter period operating vehicles with obscured visibility due to ice. Prosecutor Freja Rasmussen of the Copenhagen West Police emphasized the danger posed to other road users by driving with reduced visibility, stating that it warrants a significant penalty.
While most of the 12 drivers received conditional driving disqualifications, allowing them to continue driving upon passing a new driving test, one 48-year-old man from Hvidovre received an unconditional disqualification. He was stopped by police on Brostykkevej outside Avedøre School on February 17 and his prior traffic violations contributed to the stricter penalty.
A 47-year-old woman was also convicted of driving with insufficient visibility near Avedøre School. The remaining cases originated from checks conducted in Ishøj, Ballerup, Taastrup, Vallensbæk, Albertslund, and Rødovre.
