FC Drita Qualifies to Face FC Copenhagen in Champions League Qualification

FC Drita’s aggregate victory over Differdange has set the stage for a Champions League qualification clash with FC Copenhagen. Drita secured their advancement with a 3-2 away win on Tuesday, culminating in a 4-2 aggregate score.

Arb Manaj’s early goals, a right-footed strike followed by a left-footed finish, put Drita ahead 2-0 within the first 17 minutes during the match in Luxembourg. Differdange managed to narrow the gap with a goal from a corner kick before halftime, but the tension heightened when they equalized through a penalty in overtime. Drita quickly responded, securing the winning goal and solidifying their place in the next round.

FC Copenhagen enters the matchup as the clear favorite. Drita, despite being a four-time champion team from Kosovo, has never reached the group or league stage of a European competition. However, they have achieved some notable results in recent seasons, including a narrow 2-3 aggregate loss to Feyenoord in 2021 and subsequent matches against Antwerp, Viktoria Plzen, Breidablik, Auda and Legia Warszawa.

FC Copenhagen will host the first leg of the series against Drita next Tuesday, following their Superliga season opener against Viborg on Friday. The return match is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29.

UEFA will conduct the draw for the third qualifying round on Monday, with FC Copenhagen positioned as a seeded team. Potential opponents in the draw include teams such as Malmö FF, Dynamo Kiev, and Lech Poznan, all of whom must also navigate the second round to reach the third.

In the unlikely event that FC Copenhagen loses to Drita, they will continue their pursuit of a league stage in the Europa League qualification.
