FC Copenhagen’s Andreas Cornelius to Miss Cup Final Due to Injury

FC Copenhagen striker Andreas Cornelius will miss the cup final against Silkeborg on Thursday due to a hamstring injury sustained during Sunday’s 3-0 victory over FC Nordsjælland.

Cornelius, who was substituted shortly before halftime in the match, confirmed his own prognosis, stating that he does not expect to recover in time for the final.

“I don’t think I’ll be in the cup final,” Cornelius said. “I’ve had a slight strain before. It takes a little longer than four days.”

Despite the setback, Cornelius remains positive, focusing on the team’s recent Danish championship win.

“It’s just what happens,” Cornelius commented. “It doesn’t occupy me so much right now.”

He sees the timing of the injury as potentially beneficial for his preparation for the upcoming season.

“Now I have plenty of time to get ready for next season and hopefully continue at the level I finished with,” Cornelius added.

Cornelius reflected on the team’s journey to the championship, acknowledging the initial challenges and subsequent improvement.

“It started with a big change in the squad and a lot of instability, and then we worked our way into it and found our way back to the expression we want,” he explained. “And we finished strongly. So it has been a good development.”

He considers this championship the most difficult one he has won with the club, marking his fifth championship and fifth cup title.

Despite a challenging start to the season, Cornelius ultimately became the preferred center forward during the championship play-offs.

“I’m glad that I checked in in the play-offs and became important in this championship,” Cornelius concluded.
