FC Copenhagen narrowly defeated Viborg 3-2 in a Superliga match marked by penalties and comebacks. The defending Danish champions secured the win with a late penalty, putting pressure on their title rivals early in the season.
Viborg initially took the lead with a penalty after a handball by Thomas Delaney. Jeppe Grønning converted the penalty, giving the home side a surprising 1-0 advantage. However, Elias Achouri equalized for Copenhagen before halftime, capitalizing on a fortunate series of plays.
Early in the second half, Mohamed Elyounoussi put FCK ahead 2-1 with a header from a Rodrigo Huescas cross. Viborg responded with an equalizer of their own through Mads Søndergaard.
Late in the game, Magnus Mattsson, shortly after being substituted in, was fouled in the penalty area, and he subsequently converted the penalty to secure the 3-2 victory for FC Copenhagen. Despite the late goal, the FCK defense had to withstand some pressure in the final minutes to seal the win.
