FC Copenhagen Extends Mohamed Elyounoussi’s Contract

FC Copenhagen has prolonged Mohamed Elyounoussi’s contract by two years, securing the Norwegian player until the summer of 2029. The club made the announcement on its website Tuesday.

Elyounoussi, 30, expressed his contentment with the extension, citing both sporting and personal reasons for wanting to stay. He emphasized the club’s welcoming environment and his desire to contribute to future successes in both domestic and European competitions.

Since joining FCK in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer from Southampton, Elyounoussi has become a key player, scoring 25 goals and providing 20 assists in 93 appearances.

Sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen highlighted the extension as part of the club’s strategy to maintain a strong Scandinavian core within the squad.

In an interview with TV 2 Sport, Elyounoussi revealed that the new contract removes a previous buyout clause. He admitted that he considered leaving this summer and even prepared a farewell speech, but ultimately found it too difficult to leave the club.

Smith-Nielsen emphasized the importance of securing an experienced player in a key position and gaining control over the contractual situation.

Elyounoussi’s extensive experience includes nearly 80 Premier League games and 55 national team appearances for Norway since his debut in 2014.
