FC Copenhagen coach Jacob Neestrup has issued a strong message to the club following their Danish championship win, emphasizing the need to retain key players to maintain their competitive edge. He highlighted the strategies of rival clubs Brøndby and FC Midtjylland, who have successfully held onto their top talents, as examples for FCK to follow.
Neestrup pointed out that Brøndby has only sold one key player in the last three years, while FC Midtjylland has also managed to retain the core of their team. He contrasted this with FC Copenhagen’s recent sales of promising players like Orri Oskarsson and Victor Froholdt after relatively short periods.
The coach argued that FC Copenhagen needs to allow its best players to peak at the club for a longer duration to ensure continued success. He stated that if they can achieve this, they will have a stronger chance of winning the championship again next season.
Neestrup acknowledged the growing strength of their rivals, particularly FC Midtjylland, who finished just one point behind FCK in the league. He emphasized the importance of the club recognizing and responding to the increasing competition to remain the top team in Denmark.
Neestrup cautioned that he cannot guarantee another Danish championship for FC Copenhagen next season if they continue to sell their best players. He expressed his respect for the championship win, given the close competition and the need for Copenhagen to adapt their strategy to stay ahead.
