FC Copenhagen Actively Strengthens Squad in Summer Transfer Window

FC Copenhagen (FCK) is gearing up for the Superliga season premiere against Viborg on Friday evening, having been notably active in the transfer market this summer. Head coach Jacob Neestrup has welcomed five new players and suggests more debutants could feature in the upcoming match.

Neestrup emphasizes that selection is based on merit, stating, “We play with those we believe are best, regardless of whether you’ve been here for a year, ten years, or two days.” Key additions include Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski, defenders Junnosuke Suzuki and Yoram Zague, midfielder Dominik Sarapata, and highly-rated attacking talent Youssoufa Moukoko. Moukoko brings significant experience, having played 99 games for Dortmund and two senior national matches for Germany.

These new signings aim to fill the voids left by the departures of players like Kevin Diks, Rasmus Falk, and Roony Bardghji. Neestrup expresses confidence in the team’s preparation, though acknowledging the unpredictable nature of football. “I can’t see why we shouldn’t be well-prepared, but there are never any guarantees in football,” he stated.

Neestrup notes that integrating the new players has followed established procedures. Despite FCK’s recent cup victory in Viborg, he acknowledges Viborg’s historical strength at home, particularly against top teams. “Viborg has notoriously always taken points at home against the best teams in the league over the last four seasons,” Neestrup said.

Looking ahead to the match, Neestrup anticipates facing his former assistant, Nickolai Lund, on the opposing bench, as Viborg is currently without a permanent head coach. He expressed goodwill towards his former colleagues, stating, “I wish all former colleagues and players the best, as long as they don’t play against FC Copenhagen.” The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 PM on Friday evening.
