Favorable Conditions Expected for Viewing Total Lunar Eclipse in Denmark

Denmark is set to witness a total lunar eclipse, also known as a blood moon, with optimal viewing conditions anticipated on Sunday evening. According to the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), the celestial event will be visible from moonrise, occurring shortly before 8 PM.

The total eclipse phase is projected to last until 9 PM, followed by a partial lunar eclipse for nearly an hour. This rare occurrence happens when the Earth positions itself directly between the Sun and the full Moon, casting a shadow and blocking direct sunlight.

The phenomenon of the “blood moon” arises from the refraction of sunlight through Earth’s atmosphere, which scatters and filters the light, resulting in a distinctive copper-red glow on the Moon’s surface.

While the twilight from sunset might initially hinder visibility, the clear weather forecast suggests an excellent opportunity to observe this spectacle. The next total lunar eclipse visible from Denmark is not expected until December 31, 2028, making this Sunday’s event a noteworthy astronomical occasion. The last time Denmark witnessed a blood moon was in January 2019.
