A man suspected of the 2022 murder of Søren Koch in Viby J, Denmark, may soon be extradited after a court ruling in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The decision, made on Wednesday, marks a significant step forward in the investigation, although it remains subject to appeal.
East Jutland Police reported that the man, in his early 30s, was apprehended in Northern Ireland in September 2024 based on an international arrest warrant. He is accused of fatally shooting 21-year-old Søren Koch on March 8, 2022.
Koch, a young electrician training to become a building designer, was sitting alone in his car at an OK gas station when the shooting occurred. Police believe him to be a random and innocent victim, unconnected to criminal activities or gang conflicts.
Following the arrest in Northern Ireland in September, Deputy Police Inspector Flemming Nørgaard of East Jutland Police stated their satisfaction in apprehending the suspected perpetrator in the tragic killing that occurred over two years ago.
The extradition decision, while a positive development for the investigation, is not yet final and could be appealed to a higher court. The timing of the extradition remains uncertain.
