Danish electric car owners are encountering significant repair costs as factory warranties expire, potentially forcing them to sell their vehicles. Bills for electronic component failures range from 30,000 to 50,000 kroner, while electric motor repairs can escalate to 80,000 to 100,000 kroner.
Yasser Abaiji, a technical consultant at FDM, anticipates this issue will become more prevalent, stating that owners may find repairs unaffordable.
While brakes, steering, and undercarriage issues are common, electronics failures are the primary driver of high repair costs once the warranty period ends.
In May, electric cars constituted 61 percent of total car sales in Denmark, according to Mobility Denmark.
A FDM analysis of 28,000 electric cars inspected for the first time in 2024 revealed a failure rate of nine percent. Tesla’s Model 3, previously a top-selling model, exhibited a particularly high failure rate, with almost 25 percent failing inspection.
