Employee Suspended for Unauthorized Access to Personal Data at Statens Serum Institut

An employee at the Statens Serum Institut (SSI) has been suspended and reported to the police for unauthorized access to personal data in the CPR register, according to the institute’s website.

SSI is treating the matter with utmost seriousness and expresses regret for any inconvenience caused to affected citizens. The unauthorized searches reportedly included access to addresses and family relationships.

The serum institute will send information letters to all citizens potentially affected by this incident. An assessment of measures to prevent similar incidents is underway.

The institute is still investigating the case and is unable to provide further details at this time.

The Statens Serum Institut, operating under the Ministry of the Interior and Health, is responsible for preventing and combating infectious diseases. Its duties include newborn screening for congenital diseases, vaccine supply management, and operating Denmark’s National Biobank, which stores biological samples from the Danish healthcare system.

Recent years have seen multiple instances of unauthorized access to sensitive personal information. In April, a doctor in Region Hovedstaden and Region Sjælland was reported to the police and dismissed for accessing personal information without authorization via the electronic patient record.
