Elmer Møller’s first US Open match began with a request to remove his black cap due to a logo size violation. The Danish tennis player was offered an official US Open cap as a replacement.
Møller, who typically wears a black cap with the “rs” logo representing Robin Söderling’s initials, was informed that the logo was too large according to US Open regulations. This issue also arose during Wimbledon earlier in the summer.
Despite the initial confusion, Møller complied with the request, although he expressed a preference for his own cap. He mentioned having worn the cap throughout most of the year, including at the Australian Open, and believed he had received approval to wear it before the match.
Ultimately, Møller faced a straight-sets defeat against 14th-seeded Tommy Paul, losing 3-6, 3-6, 1-6 in under two hours. This marks his third consecutive first-round exit in a Grand Slam tournament, each time against a high-ranking opponent.
