An 82-year-old man has been charged with the death of a 79-year-old woman in Nivå, North Zealand. The North Zealand Police made the announcement on Wednesday.
A judge in Helsingør decided to uphold the man’s arrest for three days following a closed court hearing on Wednesday afternoon. The judge found a reasonable suspicion, although there is currently no basis for actual pre-trial detention.
The man denies the charges.
The arrest was made on Tuesday. The woman was discovered deceased late Monday after North Zealand Police had previously reported her missing. Her body was located in a wooded area near Møllevej.
Police suspect the crime occurred between 5:30 PM on Saturday and 4:50 PM on Monday.
Over the weekend, authorities conducted an extensive search for the 79-year-old woman, including the use of a helicopter.
The judge granted the police three days to gather additional evidence in the case.
North Zealand Police are appealing to the public for assistance via social media. They are seeking video recordings from drivers with cameras, surveillance systems, or dashcams in Nivå or the area south of Nivå, captured between 5 PM on Saturday and 5 PM on Monday.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no details regarding the relationship between the arrested man and the deceased woman have been disclosed.
