East Jutland Police Assist German Investigation of Danish Citizen Suspected of Spying for Iran

A 53-year-old Danish citizen is under investigation in Germany for allegedly spying for Iran, prompting raids by East Jutland Police on two addresses in Denmark on Thursday morning. The searches, conducted at the request of German police, targeted locations in Aarhus N and Trige.

German authorities suspect the man of gathering intelligence on Jewish people and locations in Berlin, potentially to facilitate terrorist attacks against Jewish targets. The case originated from intelligence provided by the German intelligence service, BfV.

The suspect, who was recently extradited to Germany, is believed to have received instructions from an Iranian intelligence service earlier this year to collect information on specific Jewish individuals and sites in Berlin. He allegedly surveilled three properties in June.

No arrests were made during Thursday’s searches in Denmark. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) is leading the police investigation in Germany.
