The southernmost eight kilometers of the expanded East Jutland Motorway around Aarhus are set to open in the fall, a year ahead of schedule, according to the Danish Road Directorate. This early opening is attributed to favorable weather conditions and the Directorate’s efforts to compress the construction timeline.
The expansion of the E45 around Aarhus aims to ease traffic for numerous motorists and professional drivers. The project’s first phase opening ahead of schedule is a significant milestone, according to project manager Robin Højen Madsen.
Minister of Transport Thomas Danielsen expressed his satisfaction with the progress, highlighting the project’s importance in improving daily commutes. He also commended the Danish Road Directorate for maintaining a smooth workflow with minimal disruptions and accidents.
The remaining sections of the motorway expansion, which will bring the total to six lanes around Aarhus and from Vejle to Skanderborg, are proceeding as planned. The full six-lane expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with the final wearing course to be laid in 2027.
