Dina Thorslund, the undefeated Danish boxer and reigning bantamweight world champion, has withdrawn from her July 11 fight against American Shurretta Metcalf at Madison Square Garden due to her pregnancy. The 31-year-old, holding both WBO and WBC titles, announced her second pregnancy, leading to the cancellation of the highly anticipated bout.
Thorslund expressed mixed emotions about the situation. While overjoyed with the news, she admitted to feeling saddened as an athlete, having looked forward to making history in the ring. She stated her intention to return to boxing after her pregnancy.
The fight against Metcalf, who holds the IBF title, presented Thorslund with the opportunity to unify three of the four world championship belts. This would have been a major milestone in her career.
Thorslund recently signed a three-year deal with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), co-founded by boxer and influencer Jake Paul, who is promoting the event at Madison Square Garden. She described life as a rollercoaster, particularly for female boxers, and acknowledged the fight as potentially the biggest moment of her career.
