Three out of four Danes, specifically 76 percent, have been targeted in digital scam attempts, according to a recent analysis.
The methods used by scammers include online shopping fraud, deceptive trade practices between individuals, and phishing scams. Phishing involves hackers trying to extract information via email or SMS, or gaining unauthorized access to computer systems.
The Ministry of Public Security and Emergency Preparedness released this information, referencing the Agency for Public Security’s 2024 analysis of Danes’ information security knowledge. The analysis was a collaborative effort with the Association of Municipalities in Denmark (KL) and the Danish Regions.
Torsten Schack Pedersen (V), the Minister for Public Security and Emergency Preparedness, acknowledges the increasing sophistication of digital fraud, making it harder for citizens to identify.
While Danes generally possess a high awareness of digital threats and a good level of knowledge, translating that knowledge into consistently secure online behavior remains a challenge, according to the minister.
As a result of the analysis, the minister plans to launch an information and campaign initiative. The findings will also inform the development of the forthcoming cyber and information security strategy.
