Three out of four Danes, 76 percent, have been targeted by digital fraud, according to a new analysis from the Agency for Public Security. The fraud includes online shopping scams, fraudulent transactions between parties, and phishing attempts.
The analysis, conducted in collaboration with the Association of Municipalities in Denmark (KL) and Danish Regions, reveals a decline in Danes following recommendations for secure digital behavior. This includes neglecting to update devices, not utilizing two-factor authentication when available, and failing to set strong passwords for home wireless networks.
Minister for Public Security and Emergency Preparedness Torsten Schack Pedersen (V) acknowledges the increasing difficulty citizens face in recognizing digital fraud. He states that despite a general awareness of threats and a high level of knowledge among Danes, translating this knowledge into secure behavior remains a challenge.
In response to the analysis, the minister plans to launch an information campaign. The findings will also inform the development of the upcoming cyber and information security strategy. The analysis on Danes’ knowledge of information security is conducted every two years.
