Denmark’s women’s football team secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Wales in the Nations League, setting the stage for a high-stakes match against Sweden. The win propels Denmark to second place in their group, intensifying the competition for advancement to the semi-finals.
The decisive goal came shortly after halftime, courtesy of Pernille Harder, who skillfully dribbled through the Welsh defense and delivered a precise finish.
The first half was marked by numerous opportunities for both sides. Denmark came out strong, with Harder nearly scoring in the opening minutes when her header hit the crossbar. Wales responded with a near-goal of their own, denied only by a timely clearance from Stine Ballisager. Amalie Vangsgaard also had a significant chance for Denmark, but her shot went over the goal.
After Harder’s goal, the game settled into a quieter rhythm. While Wales possessed the ball for extended periods, Vangsgaard nearly doubled Denmark’s lead, but her attempt was saved on the line. Despite Nadia Nadim being available, she did not enter the match.
With this victory, Denmark and Sweden are now neck and neck. A win against Sweden in their upcoming match would secure Denmark’s place in the Nations League semi-finals. A loss, however, could see them finish as low as third in the group.
