Denmark’s co-hosting of the 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship with Sweden concluded on a high note, exceeding expectations for spectator attendance. The event saw a total of 192,321 fans gather in Herning to watch the matches, surpassing the initial target of 150,000.
The Danish portion of the tournament culminated with a quarter-final match in which Denmark defeated Canada 2-1 in front of a sold-out crowd at Boxen arena.
A total of 32 games were played in Boxen, including 30 preliminary matches and two quarter-finals. The remaining matches, including Denmark’s semi-final game against Switzerland, will be played in Stockholm.
“What a fantastic ending on Danish soil! The script couldn’t have been written much better: Historic Danish result, electric atmosphere in Boxen and great media attention,” said Lars Lundov, Director of Sport Event Denmark.
This year marks the second time Denmark has hosted the Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship. The first time was in 2018, when Denmark was the sole host. The games were played in both Herning and Copenhagen and a total of 353,000 tickets were sold.
“We are incredibly proud of how the 2025 World Championship has been organised. It has been a celebration of ice hockey, community and Danish hosting. Fans from all over the world have found their way to Herning, and we have shown what Denmark can do when we stand together for major sporting events,” said World Championship Director Ulrik Larsen. “The 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship has once again cemented Denmark’s position as an attractive and professional host for international championships.”
