Denmark’s U21 national team secured a crucial 3-2 victory against Ukraine in their European Championship opener, thanks to impactful performances from Brøndby players Noah Nartey and Clement Bischoff, who both came off the bench. The win puts Denmark at the top of their group after the Netherlands were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by Finland.
The match saw Denmark trailing twice, but the introduction of Nartey and Bischoff proved to be a turning point. Bischoff scored a goal, while Nartey took control of the midfield, injecting much-needed offensive initiative. William Osula, another substitute, ultimately sealed the victory with a late goal.
Denmark’s start to the game was shaky, with Ukraine creating several dangerous opportunities early on. After 20 minutes, a mistake led to Vladyslav Vanat’s near miss, and shortly after, Nazar Voloshyn scored for Ukraine, putting Denmark behind.
Despite dominating possession towards the end of the first half, Denmark struggled to break down Ukraine’s defense. The second half began similarly, with Ukraine maintaining the upper hand.
The game shifted when Nartey and Bischoff were brought on as substitutes. Nartey’s presence in midfield allowed Denmark to push higher up the pitch, and in the 62nd minute, Bischoff scored the equalizer.
Ukraine regained the lead after 77 minutes when Maksim Bragaru curled a shot into the net. However, William Bøving quickly responded with a long-range goal to level the score.
In the 84th minute, Bischoff’s dribbling set up Thomas Jørgensen, who crossed the ball for Osula to score the winning goal.
