Denmark Invites Ukrainian Defense Company to Produce Rocket Fuel

Denmark is set to become the first NATO nation to host Ukrainian arms production, with Fire Point, a Ukrainian defense company, invited to establish a solid rocket fuel production facility in Vojens, South Jutland. The announcement was made at a press conference on Wednesday, marking what Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen called “a new and important step” in supporting Ukraine.

The move aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities by allowing arms production in a safer environment, away from the ongoing conflict with Russia. It also presents an opportunity for long-term supply of materials to the Danish defense industry.

The establishment of Fire Point in Denmark comes after an agreement between the two countries at the NATO summit in The Hague in July, focused on strengthening defense cooperation. Denmark has been a significant supporter of Ukraine, providing substantial military, financial, and humanitarian aid, including directing billions of kroner to the Ukrainian defense industry.

Fire Point is known for its development of Ukraine’s new long-range “Flamingo” cruise missile. The company’s presence in Denmark is expected to create several hundred jobs.

While acknowledging potential local concerns regarding the threat level, ministers emphasized that security would not be compromised. There will be close dialogue with experts to ensure adherence to safety standards.

To expedite the establishment of production, potentially by December, the government intends to utilize a construction law that bypasses certain standard requirements. This approach is currently pending adoption by the Danish Parliament. The Danish Business Authority stated that this will primarily streamline formal permits, documentation, and process requirements.

Despite reports of a corruption investigation into Fire Point, the Minister of Defence emphasized that these reports are unconfirmed. A citizen’s meeting is scheduled to take place in Vojens on Saturday.
