Denmark Invites Ukrainian Company to Produce Rocket Fuel on Its Soil

Denmark is set to become the first NATO nation to host Ukrainian arms production, with Fire Point, the company behind Ukraine’s “Flamingo” cruise missile, invited to establish a solid rocket fuel production facility in Vojens, South Jutland. This move aims to bolster support for Ukraine’s defense capabilities amidst ongoing conflict.

The decision, announced at a press conference, marks a significant step in Denmark’s continued support for Ukraine, which has included substantial military, financial, and humanitarian aid. The agreement was solidified at the NATO summit in The Hague in July, emphasizing strengthened defense cooperation between the two nations.

Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen emphasized the historical significance of the decision, highlighting Denmark’s commitment to supporting Ukraine even as a smaller country. The invitation to Ukrainian companies to produce in Denmark and other Western countries seeks to provide a safer environment for production, given the increasing threat of Russian attacks on Ukrainian arms industries. The long-term vision includes supplying equipment to the Danish defense sector as well.

Addressing potential concerns about safety and security, Minister of Business Morten Bødskov assured that safety would not be compromised. He stated that close dialogue with experts is ongoing, and existing safety distance requirements will be strictly adhered to.

The establishment of the production facility is expected to create several hundred jobs. The government intends to utilize a building and construction law to expedite the process, aiming for production to begin as early as December. This law would bypass certain standard requirements, although it is still pending adoption in the Danish Parliament.

The decision has drawn criticism from Russia, with the Russian ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, expressing concerns that it could be interpreted as Denmark’s direct participation in the conflict in Ukraine. He highlighted the Ukrainian side’s stated intention to use these missiles for attacks deep inside Russia.

It has also been noted that Fire Point is currently under investigation for corruption in Ukraine, according to the Kyiv Independent newspaper.
