Denmark Extends Special Law for Ukrainian Refugees Until 2027

Denmark has extended its special law for Ukrainian refugees until March 2027, allowing them to continue residing in the country. The decision, announced on Friday, provides ongoing access to work, education, and healthcare services for Ukrainians who fled the war.

The extension, according to a press release from the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, aligns with the EU’s decision to extend similar temporary protection measures for Ukrainian refugees until March 2027.

Minister for Immigration and Integration Kaare Dybvad Bek (S) emphasized the importance of European solidarity in supporting those displaced by the conflict in Ukraine, stating that it is crucial for European countries to stand together to extend the basis for residency for those who are still displaced due to Putin’s insane invasion of Ukraine.

The special law, initially passed in March 2022, provides Ukrainian refugees with the ability to work, attend school, and access healthcare in Denmark. This extension ensures the continuation of these benefits for another year. While Denmark is not bound by EU rules in this area due to its legal relationship with the EU, the country has chosen to align its policies with the EU’s to support Ukrainian refugees.
