Denmark and Sweden Select Host Cities for 2029 Women’s European Football Championship Bid

Denmark and Sweden are jointly bidding to host the 2029 European Women’s Football Championship, with Denmark having selected the four stadiums to be used if their bid is successful. Parken in Copenhagen, the new stadium in Aarhus, Nature Energy Park in Odense, and Brøndby Stadion in Brøndby have been chosen to host the matches on Danish soil.

The Danish Football Association (DBU) initially announced its joint bid with Sweden last year. Jesper Møller, chairman of DBU, expressed gratitude to the host cities and those offering base camps, emphasizing their support as crucial to a strong and ambitious plan. He believes the event will strengthen women’s football and community for years to come.

Denmark has prior experience hosting major football events, including the men’s U21 European Championship in 2011 and co-hosting the men’s Euro 2020 in 2021. Lars Lundov, director of Sport Event Denmark, sees hosting the Women’s European Championship as a natural progression, stating it would “tie a beautiful ribbon on our host history and at the same time take an important step into the future.”

Lundov further highlighted the opportunity to promote values of community, equality, and diversity while uniting people in celebration. The combined capacity of the Danish and Swedish stadiums exceeds one million spectators. The recent European Championship in Switzerland set a spectator record for the women’s event, with 657,291 attendees.
