The Danish national football team’s primary goal is to secure a direct spot in the upcoming World Cup finals in Canada, the USA, and Mexico by winning their qualifying group. This ambition was clearly stated by Peter Møller, the football director of the Danish Football Association (DBU), ahead of Denmark’s initial World Cup qualification match against Scotland.
Møller acknowledged the strength of opponents such as Greece and Scotland but emphasized that the team’s focus is firmly set on World Cup qualification. He highlighted the significance of the World Cup as the ultimate stage for football players and expressed the team’s determination to participate.
Denmark has previously participated in the World Cups in Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022, and Møller is hopeful for a third consecutive qualification. He pointed out that Denmark has never qualified for three consecutive World Cup finals.
Møller believes the compact qualification schedule, introduced with the Nations League in 2018, should favor stronger teams with deeper talent pools. He acknowledged that injuries to key players could weaken the team, but he expressed a preference for the condensed qualification period and the need to adapt to the schedule.
