Danish Rapper Charged with Major Tax Evasion

A well-known Danish rapper is facing charges of tax evasion amounting to approximately 3.3 million kroner for the years 2015 to 2018. The charges were revealed during a court hearing held Tuesday afternoon at the Court in Glostrup.

During the hearing, a request from the defendant for a name ban was considered and subsequently denied by the judge. His legal representative has appealed this decision, meaning the Eastern High Court will now review whether a name ban should be imposed.

The rapper, through his lawyer, has consistently denied all accusations of tax evasion since the beginning of the case. His lawyer argued in court that publicizing the rapper’s identity would lead to unwarranted violation and potential financial repercussions. The press present at the hearing contended that as a prominent figure in Danish culture, and given the nature of the charges involving alleged misappropriation of public funds, there was significant public interest in disclosing his name.

Formal charges in the case were initially filed on July 14, 2022, but the rapper’s request for a name ban was only submitted recently. A name ban, if granted, would legally prohibit the publication of any information that could lead to the identification of the individual in question.

The police investigation into the matter reportedly began in 2021. The rapper, who is scheduled to perform at several festivals this summer, is accused of violating a section of the penal code pertaining to serious breaches of tax laws. The alleged tax evasion occurred while the rapper was already established in the Danish music industry.

The rapper was not physically present at Tuesday’s court hearing, though it was confirmed that he was aware of the proceedings.

The case is scheduled to be heard at the Court in Glostrup on September 1 of this year.
