Danish Prime Minister Highlights Immigration Policy Successes

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the success of her Social Democratic government in curbing immigration to Denmark, citing the lowest number of asylum seekers in 40 years. Speaking at the Folketing, Frederiksen contrasted her administration’s policies with those of the previous right-wing government led by Lars Løkke Rasmussen, during whose tenure more migrants and refugees arrived in Denmark.

Frederiksen attributed the decreased number of asylum seekers not to chance, but to the tightening of immigration policies implemented since 2019. She stated that immigration poses the biggest threat to the Nordic countries.

Acknowledging the plight of refugees, Frederiksen clarified that her satisfaction with the tightened immigration measures stemmed from the realization that Denmark cannot provide assistance to everyone seeking refuge within its borders. The Prime Minister signaled an upcoming focus on balancing the need for foreign labor with the need to prevent excessive immigration.
