Danish National Ice Hockey Team Achieves Best World Championship Result Ever

The Danish men’s national ice hockey team has secured its best-ever World Championship result, regardless of their quarterfinal game outcome against Canada. This achievement is guaranteed due to Austria’s loss to Switzerland, ensuring Denmark a minimum seventh-place finish.

Switzerland defeated Austria 6-0 in an early quarterfinal match. This result positioned Austria eighth overall, a spot Denmark cannot fall below.

The final rankings of teams eliminated in the quarterfinals are determined by their group stage placement and point totals. Denmark earned 11 points in their group, surpassing Austria’s 10.

Denmark had previously finished eighth twice. This new milestone marks a significant step forward for the team.

A higher final placement translates to more points in the world ranking, which influences seeding for future World Championships and Olympic qualifications. Denmark currently ranks eleventh and has the opportunity to climb higher.

In another quarterfinal match, the USA defeated Finland 5-2.

Later today, Denmark faces Canada, while Sweden plays the Czech Republic. If Denmark upsets Canada, they will advance to the semi-finals in Stockholm.

Denmark has defeated Canada only once before, securing a 3-2 victory in the 2022 World Championship group stage.
