Danish Meteorological Institute Warns of Very Dangerous Weather

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning for “very dangerous weather” in several regions of Denmark. The alert, issued on Monday, highlights the potential for significant rainfall and local flooding in the coming hours.

Lolland-Falster, West Zealand, Funen, and East Jutland are expected to be the hardest-hit areas, with the rain intensifying from Monday afternoon through Tuesday night. Forecasters predict up to 120 millimeters of rain in the most affected locations.

The heavy rainfall poses a high risk of local flooding, potentially affecting basements and roadways. Residents are advised to secure their property and be cautious of standing water on roads, as it may increase the risk of aquaplaning.

DMI updated their weather map and expanded the “red municipalities” where a category 3 warning is in effect to include Assens, Middelfart, Kolding, Vejle, Fredericia, and Ærø.

The institute uses the term “very dangerous weather” when conditions allow for over 24 millimeters of rain to fall in less than six hours. A significant change in weather is expected across the country, including cooler temperatures and increased precipitation in the coming days.
