Danish Meteorological Institute Warns of Heavy Rain in Northern Jutland

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning for heavy rain and torrential downpours in the northern part of Jutland, lasting from tonight through Thursday. The alert is due to a low-pressure system moving from Norway over Denmark, bringing intense rain and showers.

Insurance companies, including Alm. Brand and LB Forsikring, are urging customers in the affected areas to take precautionary measures. Alm. Brand has sent thousands of text messages to its customers, advising them to secure outdoor items like grills, garden furniture, and pots. They also recommend closing windows and lowering flagpoles.

LB Forsikring emphasizes the importance of preventative action, suggesting that cleaning gutters can help prevent water damage. The insurance company also advises residents to move items off basement floors to minimize potential flood damage.

The heavy rain will be accompanied by storm-force gusts along the west coast of Jutland. While the rest of the country is also expected to receive rain, the exact location is difficult to predict.

The DMI notes that the prolonged drought has left the soil bone dry, which will slow down water absorption. This may lead to aquaplaning on roads and standing water in fields. However, meteorologist Marie Timm expects the sewer systems to manage the short-lived showers effectively.
