Danish Meteorological Institute Warns of Heatwave and Potential Thunderstorms

North Jutland faces a potential heatwave with the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) issuing a warning valid until 9 PM on Sunday. The DMI defines a heatwave as when the average of the highest recorded temperatures measured over three consecutive days exceeds 28 degrees Celsius in a specific location.

According to the DMI, it may be the third day in a row with 28 degrees or more in some places in North Jutland.

Additionally, there is a risk of thunderstorms and cloudbursts in Northwest Jutland, West Zealand, and Lolland between 1 PM and 6 PM on Saturday. Locally, between 15 and 25 millimeters of rain may fall in just half an hour in several municipalities.

The municipalities of Jammerbugt and Vesthimmerland are at risk for both a heatwave and cloudbursts on Saturday, according to DMI estimates.

Duty meteorologist Mette Wagner indicates that temperatures may exceed 28 degrees Celsius on Sunday as well.

Wagner notes that warm and humid air has been prevalent over Denmark recently, with North Jutland experiencing fewer clouds and less rain.

A change in weather is expected on Monday with a downpour anticipated to lower temperatures.

The DMI also reports that a heat wave, defined as an average value exceeding 25 degrees, is affecting approximately 83 percent of the country. North Jutland recorded the highest temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, followed by 29.2 degrees Celsius on Friday.
