Danish Meteorological Institute Issues Severe Weather Warning for Most of Denmark

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a severe weather warning, covering most of Denmark, effective Tuesday. The warning indicates a risk of heavy rain and potential local cloudbursts.

The first warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, with expectations of 25 to 35 millimeters of rain within that six-hour period. An extended warning follows from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, anticipating 30 to 50 millimeters of rain.

Local cloudbursts may accompany the rain in some areas. A cloudburst is defined as at least 15 millimeters of precipitation falling within a 30-minute timeframe.

Duty meteorologist Erik Hansen noted the possibility of heavy showers with hail and thunder. The lack of wind increases the potential for significant rainfall in localized spots, with some areas possibly experiencing double cloudbursts.

Northern and Southern Jutland, as well as Læsø and Bornholm, are currently excluded from the DMI’s warning.

The severe weather is attributed to the convergence of warm, humid air and a cold front. This front is expected to persist overnight, potentially leading to accumulated rainfall reaching 50 millimeters in 24 hours in certain regions.

DMI advises the public to be aware that the weather conditions could impact their surroundings and outdoor activities.
