Isken Aps, the operator of all 11 KFC restaurants in Denmark, is on the brink of bankruptcy and is currently unable to pay employee salaries. This information comes from an email obtained by Ekstra Bladet, revealing the company’s dire financial situation.
KFC’s European headquarters reportedly triggered the events leading to the impending bankruptcy. The formal bankruptcy proceedings are expected to commence next week, according to Ekstra Bladet.
The decision follows a DR Kontant exposé in June, which uncovered the practice of falsifying date markings on chicken products at the Danish KFC locations. This scandal has further exacerbated the company’s already precarious financial standing.
Former employees provided testimonies to DR Kontant, detailing how they routinely extended the expiration dates of chicken. If fresh, thawed chicken was not used by its original expiration date, employees would print and apply new expiration stickers, effectively mislabeling the product.
KFC operates restaurants in several Danish cities, including Rødovre, Greve, Tilst, Horsens, Vejle, Herning, two in Odense, and three in Copenhagen.
