Danish Intelligence Helps Identify Terror Propaganda Targeting Minors

Danish intelligence, in collaboration with Europol and 15 other countries, has participated in an operation to remove terror propaganda targeting or involving minors. The Police Intelligence Service (PET) assisted in identifying 2,000 internet addresses containing this material, according to a written response from PET following a Europol press release.

The coordinated action, which took place on May 27, highlights the increasing focus of terrorist groups on exploiting young people online. Extremist groups are refining their methods, using artificial intelligence to create appealing content like short videos and memes. They also glorify minors involved in terrorist attacks to encourage young men to join their ranks.

PET has contacted the platforms hosting the content, informing them of the illegal nature of the material. The content was found on both niche and mainstream platforms.

Europol’s Executive Director, Catherine De Bolle, emphasized that terrorist groups are increasingly targeting minors, exploiting their vulnerabilities and online skills to promote violent and extremist agendas. The international effort underscores the importance of cross-border cooperation between authorities and online platforms to combat the spread of extremist and terror-related content online.

Besides Denmark, the countries involved in the action were Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Malta, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Great Britain. It remains unclear if the operation has resulted in any arrests.
