Danish Ice Hockey Hopes for Continued Interest After World Championship Success

Denmark’s national ice hockey team and its leaders are optimistic that the recent success at the World Championships will translate into sustained interest and growth for the sport within the country. The team’s unexpected victories, particularly against Germany and Canada, have generated significant media attention leading up to the final tournament in Stockholm.

Morten Green, the elite manager of the Danish Ice Hockey Union, expressed hope that ice hockey will maintain a presence in the media even after the excitement of the World Championships subsides. He highlighted the opportunity to capitalize on the increased visibility the sport has gained, especially with the tournament being held on home soil.

Green emphasized that Danish ice hockey consistently produces talented players who compete in prominent clubs internationally, but often remain unknown to the general public in Denmark. He hopes to foster greater interest in both the domestic league and the Danish players who excel abroad, not only in North America but also in Europe.

National coach Mikael Gath, while exhausted from the extended World Cup run, echoed Green’s sentiments. He hopes the team’s success will inspire a new generation of ice hockey players to join the sport.

Gath emphasized that the World Cup was a resounding success, marked by strong performances and well-deserved achievements. He hopes it has showcased the appeal of ice hockey to children and young people, encouraging them to discover the sport’s unique qualities.
