Danish Health Authority Warns of Dangerous Fake Oxycontin Pills

The Danish Health Authority has issued a warning about counterfeit Oxycontin pills circulating in Copenhagen, which contain a potent and dangerous substance of the nitazene type. These fake medications are falsely labeled as produced by Mundipharma and containing 80mg of Oxycontin.

Nitazenes are significantly stronger than morphine, posing a severe health risk. Ingestion can rapidly lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and low blood pressure.

The most critical danger is respiratory depression, which can be fatal. While nitazenes have not yet caused deaths in Denmark, fatalities have occurred in neighboring countries due to similar substances. One death was reported in December following ingestion of a nitazene-related substance.

The Danish Health Authority advises immediate treatment with Naloxone, an antidote, for anyone experiencing adverse effects after ingesting these counterfeit pills. Prompt respiratory support is also crucial until the individual can breathe independently. Authorities urge immediate calls to emergency services (112) in such cases. Authentic Oxycontin purchased from pharmacies is not affected by this warning.
