Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has summoned a top American diplomat for a meeting following reports of potential US attempts to influence Greenland. The meeting was prompted by a report from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) detailing the activities of three American men and their possible infiltration efforts in Greenland.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that any external interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, which includes Greenland, is unacceptable. Rasmussen stated he has requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the American chargé d’affaires for discussions on the matter.
The meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the American chargé d’affaires in Denmark is expected to take place soon. During this meeting, Denmark intends to convey to the USA that any official participation in or sanctioning of influence campaigns would be a violation of international rules.

Member of Parliament Aaja Chemnitz (IA) underscored the importance of delivering a clear message to the USA, emphasizing that while American interest is not surprising, any overreach is unacceptable.
It is uncommon for Denmark to summon representatives from allied nations for discussions. A similar event occurred in May when the then-American chargé d’affaires was summoned following reports that the USA would increase espionage against Greenland.
Rasmussen emphasized the close collaboration and dialogue between the governments in Denmark and Greenland.
