Danish Data Protection Agency Requests Clarification on DRTV Login Requirements

The Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) has requested that DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) examine the possibility of allowing viewers to access content on DRTV without requiring a login. If a login-free option is not feasible, DR must provide a clear explanation as to why.

This request stems from inquiries made by the Danish Data Protection Agency to DR, obtained through public records. The agency questions the necessity of mandatory logins, particularly given DR’s argument that the current system aligns with user expectations for streaming services.

Specifically, the Data Protection Agency questions why DR cannot offer DRTV with a voluntary login option for individual users.

This development is part of an ongoing investigation by the Danish Data Protection Agency into the justification for collecting personal data from DRTV users. The agency’s core responsibility is to ensure the protection of citizens’ data.
